“Don’t Look Up“, the new star-studded film directed by Adam McKay starring Ariana Grande as Riley Bina is smashing on Netflix.
Despite the mixed reviews of critics (which brought the film’s score to 55% on Rotten Tomatoes), the film has been watched by millions of people and is already one of Netflix’s most-watched films.
The film debuted with over 111 million hours viewed during its first weekend (from 24/12 to 26/12), becoming the 2nd biggest debut for a film on Netflix, only after “Red Notice” (which debuted with 148.72 million hours viewed). This number brought the film to #1 in almost every country where Netflix is available (88 out of 89 countries).
In the United States, “Don’t Look Up” has been watched by 3.1 million households in its first weekend, scoring the 2nd biggest debut for a movie on Netflix (after “Red Notice” which has been watched by 4.2 million US households in its first weekend).
Despite being available only in selected theaters, the film made a box office of $731,764 only from three countries: South Korea ($560,482), Portugal (110,635), and the Netherlands ($60,647).
Furthermore, the soundtrack song of the film, “Just Look Up” by Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi is seeing a surge in streams (especially on Spotify when the song saw an increase of 30%) and is currently the ninth most shazamed song on Shazam.
